WHERE ARE WE IN THE PROJECT?
Establish Purpose & Need: April - July 2022
The Route 66 Improved Project is being completed to identify corridor needs through research, soliciting input from stakeholders and members of the public and identifying solutions to reduce crashes, mitigate congestion and enhance safety along the corridor.
Develop Initial Alternatives: June - December 2022
After the corridor needs had been identified, our project team began making recommendations and developing alternative solutions to address problematic or unsafe conditions.
Agency Stakeholder Meeting: Jan. 12, 2023
Our project team held an agency stakeholder meeting to present initial alternatives and options identified to improve the Route 66 corridor.
The purpose of this meeting was to help confirm the corridor needs and gather input from various federal, state, municipal and tribal agencies regarding the initial improvement alternatives. This information will be used to help the project team determine which alternatives better meet the corridor needs and further refine those alternatives moving forward.
Public Meeting: Feb. 9, 2023
This feedback will be used to help the project team determine which alternatives better meet the corridor needs and further refine those alternatives moving forward.
Select Preferred Alternative: Summer 2023
After the stakeholder meeting, public meeting and all other input collected from the project communication channels, a detailed analysis will be conducted to select a preferred alternative for each segment of the project study area. Further stakeholder meetings will be held during this time.
Public Meeting: Summer 2023
Prior to the finalization of the study report, one more public meeting will be held to present selected preferred alternatives to the public and local community and offer opportunities to provide input.
Finalize Study Report: Fall 2023
The project team will provide a final report to NMDOT presenting the findings and selected alternatives along with input provided by stakeholders and community members.
Design and Construction: Future
The final study report will include a recommended priority plan for further developing and constructing individual improvement projects identified in the study. Funding for these projects has not yet been identified. Upon completion of the study and when funding is identified, further public outreach and environmental studies will be undertaken as individual projects are advanced towards design and construction.
Refine Alternatives: Spring/Summer 2023
Using feedback from the community and public agencies, the project team will determine which alternatives better meet the corridor needs. The remaining alternatives will be refined for further analysis.
