Key Milestones

2022
April - July
Establish Purpose & Need: The Route 66 Improved Project is being completed to identify corridor needs through research, soliciting input from stakeholders and members of the public, and identifying solutions to reduce crashes, mitigate congestion, and enhance safety along the corridor.

2022
June - December
Develop Initial Alternatives: After the corridor needs had been identified, our project team began making recommendations and developing alternative solutions to address problematic or unsafe conditions.
2023
January 12

Agency Stakeholder Meeting: Our project team held an agency stakeholder meeting to present initial alternatives and options identified to improve the Route 66 corridor.

The purpose of this meeting was to help confirm the corridor needs and gather input from various federal, state, municipal and tribal agencies regarding the initial improvement alternatives. This information will be used to help the project team determine which alternatives better meet the corridor needs and further refine those alternatives moving forward.

Public Meeting: This feedback will be used to help the project team determine which alternatives better meet the corridor needs and further refine those alternatives moving forward.
2023
Spring/Summer
Refine Alternatives: Using feedback from the community and public agencies, the project team will determine which alternatives better meet the corridor needs. The remaining alternatives will be refined for further analysis.

Select Preferred Alternative: After the stakeholder meeting, public meeting and all other input collected from the project communication channels, a detailed analysis will be conducted to select a preferred alternative for each segment of the project study area. Further stakeholder meetings will be held during this time.

2025
Spring
Public Meeting: Prior to the finalization of the study report, one more public meeting will be held to present selected preferred alternatives to the public and local community and offer opportunities to provide input.
2025
Winter
Finalize Study Report: The project team will provide a final report to NMDOT presenting the findings and selected alternatives along with input provided by stakeholders and community members.
Future

Design and Construction: The final study report will include a recommended priority plan for further developing and constructing individual improvement projects identified in the study. Funding for these projects has not yet been identified. Upon completion of the study and when funding is identified, further public outreach and environmental studies will be undertaken as individual projects are advanced towards design and construction.
